Issue Number 10, Summer 2 July
Hadith of the Week
Umar bin Abi Salama narrated, ‘I was a boy under the care of the Messenger of Allah and my hand used to go around the dish while I was eating. So the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said,
O boy, Mention the Name of Allah, eat with your right hand and eat of from the dish which is nearer to you.
Since then I have applied those instructions when eating.
Eat Peppers to defeat them
We have been continuing with our campaign on promoting fruits and vegetables at Iqra. Last week, Year 2 gave us a great assembly on peppers, children learnt the different ways in which peppers can be eaten and tried pots of peppers in their classroom, even giving us a little song on the vegetable!
Peppers are oval,
Peppers are nice,
They can be pointy and full of spice,
Red, orange, yellow, and green,
The most beautiful colours ever seen,
Peppers are oval,
Peppers are nice
They can be pointy and full of spice.
This was followed with another assembly by Year 3 who taught us about carrots. Children had a go at trying carrots in their classrooms.
Children have loved reading books which they have borrowed from the classroom. Since we are now coming to the end of the year, children must return all books that have been borrowed. Sometimes, children forget that they have taken books out, or they forget where they have put them. Be a book hero and have a look around the home; returning books to the school saves the us hundreds of pounds in costs and helps other children with reading.
Leave the car and enjoy the walk
As the weather is improving, and we are experiencing warmer days, now is a good time to leave the car. Every morning children sign in to the walk to school app to show how they have travelled to school. Children collect points and are awarded with a special badge at the end.
There are a number of options in which children can enjoy coming to school: walking, cycling, scooter and park and stride – where you park your car a street away and walk to school.
Try something different and see the benefits.
Design Technology - Food Week
Last week, children have been making different items of food in the Iqra kitchen. Children have been involved in preparing, chopping and blending different vegetables and have made yummy pasta, delicious smoothies and crispy salads.
Year 6 learning online
Year 6 are currently isolating because of a case of covid within the classroom, and are learning from home. Lessons are continuing online where children are rehearsing for their end of year assembly and continuing with transition activities to help them with their move into secondary school. They will return to school on Monday 12 July 2021.
