Issue Number 9, Summer June 2021
Welcome to your fortnightly update on the going ons at Iqra Primary School. We have had assemblies, tasty vegetables, chrome book returns, nursery and reception inductions and a lot of learning over the recent hot weather. Catch up with some of our events below.
Hadith of the Week
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said,
Allah says: I am as My servant expects of Me, and I am with him when he calls upon Me.
Eat them to defeat them
Last week Iqra joined the national campaign to encourage children to eat more veg! We had a special assembly on eating vegetables and had a special taster session on tomatoes.
This week the children were encouraged to eat sweetcorn in their classes and were awarded with special stickers. We have displayed posters around the school to highlight the message and have spotlighted a vegetable of the week during lunch times.
So if you see your children excited about eating vegetables or asking for more, then you know the reason why!
Congratulations to Swan
We would like to thank all of the families that have been supporting our local charity—SWAN. Congratulations to the founder Saiqa Ali who has been awarded a B.E.M (Medallists of the Order of the British Empire ) by her majesty Queen Elizabeth II, recognising all the good work she and the SWAN organisation have done. Thank you to all our parents who have helped provide hot meals, water and other aid to many people in need.
Covid is still with us and our school safety measures are still in place. As a result, a number of annual events will be affected.
- There is no Summer Fair this year. We are not open for large open gatherings yet and we hope that this will take place next year insha’Allah.
- Sports Day will be held for children only. We will update you on the winners in a further newsletter.
- There is no end of year whole school trip, insha’Allah we hope this changes next year.
- Please return all chromebooks if you have not done so already.

These sessions will take place online and parents will be sent a link via their child’s Google Classroom to meet the teacher.
Please book early to avoid disappointment.
Value of the Half Term
The value for Summer 2 is Husn al-Dhann or Good Assumptions. In our Islamic Studies lessons and sermons, we have been talking to the children about having a good opinion regarding Allah and expecting good to take place, as well as understanding that things that may not appear as good, may have wisdoms behind them.
We have also been teaching the children of assuming good regarding others, so that we avoid suspicions, gossip and entering into arguments.
Check in with your children to find out more about what they have been learning.
End of Year Gifts
At the end of the year, children often like to give gifts to their teachers. Sometimes, this creates a bit of a pressure on parents to buy a gift. Iqra would like to reassure our parents that there is no obligation for children to purchase gifts for their teachers. A card with a heartfelt message means tonnes more to a teacher and is often kept more preciously than any other gift. Therefore teachers will not be accepting any gifts this year. Furthermore, because of Covid restrictions we are avoiding contact with items coming from households.
However, if children and parents would like to give a gift then please give a charity gift on behalf of the teachers of Iqra Primary School. The charity that we are supporting is Little Hearts of Muntada Aid which provides free life saving heart surgery to babies and children who have congenital heart problems.
A Parent Pay option will be set up from next week, for parents who would like to give charity gifts on behalf of teachers at Iqra.
Correction on Eid Gifts
We wanted to offer a correction regarding the Eid Celebrations as reported in the last Newsletter issue 8. The gifts that were given to all the children were provided by our amazing Parent Council, using funds that they had previously raised from PC events. Special gifts were purchased for every child from Nursery to Reception.
A huge thank you to them for giving up their time to order gifts, packing them into special bags and then also organising play events for the children.
We would also like to thank our fantastic parent volunteers who came in on the day to help manage the outdoor events, without whom the day would not have been possible.
