What we are learning this Year/Term
Our class book this half term will be Ice Palace. It is an interesting book about a young boy who goes on an adventure to find his little brother. We will use this text for a range of purposes. Children will be exploring instruction texts and writing instructions on playground games. They will write letters of advise and diary entries. To finish the unit we will be exploring non-fiction texts and writing a non-chronological report on ‘Winter Safety’.
We will be looking at Mass and Volume in Maths. We will learn to read and write measurements, convert them and solve word problems using the four operations. After that unit we will begin looking at money.
We will be exploring magnets and forces in Science. We will look at the types of surfaces and how objects move. We will then explore magnets and which metals are magnetic.
Children will be coding using scratch software this half term. We will build on our coding skills and explore block-based programming further.
