AssalamuāAlaikum Year 3
Welcome to Spring 1!
I hope you have enjoyed your half term and ready to do some amazing learning in the new year. I hope we can carry on working together to produce fantastic work and InShaāAllah we are ready to carry on being superb hard workers.
What we are learning this Year/Term
English
In English we will be reading āThe Ice Palaceā by Robert Swindells. During our lessons this term we are using a range of writing methods to develop and extend our understanding of the story. We will be writing a set of instructions, letters in role, making an information leaflet and many more exciting lessons.
Guided Reading
In Year 3 we will be reading āVarjak Pawā by SF Said. Through learning new vocabulary, making predictions about the story, retrieving information and summarising what they have read, we will be developing their understanding of the text being read.
It is important that your child also reads at home everyday. Please ensure your child reads at least 15 minutes everyday and listen to them read. We encourage children to read a wide range of books. Please let me know if your child does not have access to suitable reading material. Children are also able to join local libraries which are free.
Maths
We will be looking at and developing childrenās understanding of volume, money and time. We will be using a variety of methods to help consolidate childrenās learning and also use concrete materials to help with visualising the methods. Please ensure children continue practicing their times tables and using IXL at home to help consolidate their learning. They can use the timetables website which they have all been given logins to.
Computing
In computing children will be looking at coding with Scratch junior and develop their skills through exploring the different features of coding.
Science
In Science, Year 3 will be looking at Light and Shadows. In this unit children will explore the differences between light sources and light reflectors, and will sort these into two groups. They will be able to describe how shadows are formed and will explore the relationship between light, objects and the formation of shadows.

Year 3 will be studying History for the Spring term. We will be learning about Ancient Egypt. We will be looking at why the River Nile was important for the survival of Ancient Egypt, why they lasted for 3000 years and how it had an impact on our lives today while looking at key Pharaohs and figures in the time period.
