Welcome to Year 3 – Saturn Class

Assalamu alaikum and welcome to all…

I hope you all had a restful break and are ready for the new year. We have a lot of exciting topics to cover during Autumn 1 and lots of hard work.

I am looking forward to working with you and your child.

This page will be updated regularly to inform you of what we are getting up to in Year 3!

What we are learning this Year/Term

The book Tin Forest has a sequence to focus on characters thoughts and feelings. Children will be writing character descriptions, diary entries, poetry and additional endings to the story. The sequence also focuses on setting descriptions ranging from creating a setting linked to the story and writing descriptions focusing on use of adjectives. The grammar focus will be using ‘a’ and ‘an’ correctly and consistently organizing writing into paragraphs.

This half term we will be focusing on place value, addition and subtraction of 3 digit numbers. Children will build a solid understanding of place value and this will help them with solving real life problems. Children will explore a variety of strategies for adding and subtracting larger numbers.

We will be exploring light investigating which material would be best to make a shadow puppet. We will explore which materials block the most light. We will also investigate how shadows change shape and size.

The importance of E-Safety we will also introduce the use of coding.

P.E. will be every Tuesday afternoon.

Our unit this term is New beginnings as children start a new school year thinking about the importance of belonging and their learning goals for the year.

We will be looking at the famous artist LS Lowry and painting some of his amazing art work. We will also look at block printing.
