AssalamuāAlaikum Year 3
Welcome to Summer !!
I hope you are ready to do some amazing learning in the new term. InShaāAllah we are ready to carry on being superb hard workers. Please do not hesitate to contact me or speak to me if you have any questions.
What we are learning this Year/Term
English
In English we will be reading āRamadan Moonāā by Naāima B. Roberts and Gregory Cool by Caroline Binch. During our lessons this term we are using a range of writing methods to develop and extend our understanding of the story. We will be writing a poems, descriptive writing, instructions, a short letter and many more exciting lessons.
Guided Reading
In Year 3 we will be reading āCharlotteās Webā by E.B. White. Through learning new vocabulary, making predictions about the story, retrieving information and summarising what they have read, we will be developing their understanding of the text being read.
It is important that your child also reads at home everyday. Please ensure your child reads at least 15 minutes everyday and listen to them read. We encourage children to read a wide range of books. Please let me know if your child does not have access to suitable reading material. Children are also able to join local libraries which are free.
Maths
We will be looking at and developing childrenās understanding of fractions and angles. We will be using a variety of methods to help consolidate childrenās learning and also use concrete materials to help with visualising the methods. Please ensure children continue practising their times tables at home to help consolidate their learning. They can use the timetables website which they have all been given logins to.
Computing
In computing children will be using Lego WeDo where they are going to build different things and giving instructions to follow.
Science
In Science, Year 3 will be looking at what plants need. In this unit children will explore what plants need to grow well. They will compare how plants grow in different soils and explore how fertilisers can be used to improve growth. Children will investigate the amount of water needed to help a leafy pot plant grow well. They will also investigate how space affects plant growth by comparing how well grass seeds grow with more or less space. They will use what they have learned to grow a mystery plant from seed. Children will use the results from their investigations to produce helpful hints and tips cards to describe what helps plants grow better.
Topic
Year 3 will be studying Geography for the Spring term. We will be developing our knowledge on maps and how to use them and investigating the local area by collecting data on how Londoners travel to work. The children will collect data to analyse and present their findings.
P.E
P.E. will be on Tuesday and Fridays. Please ensure that your child has the correct P.E. kit and suitable footwear.

Art/DT
In Art, Year 3 will be using an editing programme to edit and alter digital images. This will be a new experience for the children to enjoy.
