Assalamu’alaikum and welcome back to the Summer term and see below for all the exciting things we’ll be getting up to…!

Year 3 Book Character
This is our last half term in Year 3. Thank you for all your support this year and I wish you and your child all the best in Year 4. We have still got some interesting topics to cover so stay tunes.

What we are learning this Year/Term

English

The book Gregory Cool is about a boy who visits his family in Tobago. The children will  be writing diary entries in role, writing a  letter home and producing persuasive holiday brochures.

Maths

We will be completing our unit on fractions particularly focusing on finding fractions of a number and solving fraction problems. Children will then learn to identify parallel, perpendicular, horizontal and vertical lines. We will study how to identify, describe and draw / make 2D and 3D shapes. We will then focus on how to calculate and measure the perimeter of 2D shapes.

 

Science

Our Science topic this half term is parts of a plant. Children will learn about the functions of each part of a plant. They will take part in some investigations including celery roots and dissecting flowers.

 

Geography

We are focusing on the human and physical features of Mountains in Europe. We will    discover the seven summits and learn about life in mountainous areas. Children will describe the features of mountains and learn about why the seven summits are so special.

 

Computing

We will recap our purple mash unit on coding and then use the programme scratch to decode and create our own programmes.

 

P.E.

PE sessions will continue to be on a Tuesday afternoon with the coaches, where children will focus on invasion games and teamwork games as we are approaching sports day.

 

P.S.H.E

This half term we will focus on relationships and managing our feelings and emotions as we prepare ourselves for Year 4.

 

DT

We will be investigating paper mechanisms and how they are used in books. Children will interview a Year 1 child and then plan, make and share a pop up book with their younger peer including paper mechanisms they have learnt.

Year 3 Staff

Hello I am Ustadha Medina Lister I am the Year 3 Teacher. This is my fourth year teaching at Iqra and my third year in Year 3.
Ust Haque is the teaching assistant for year 3 and knows all of the children very well, supporting them in all aspects of their learning and Ust Lister so many ways too.
Ust Shelton works in year 3 to support one particular pupil. This is her first year at Iqra.

How You Can Help

  • Please listen to and read with your child as often as possible.
  • Please help children to learn their spellings each week. Spelling tests will be on a Monday.
  • In Year 3 we will move quite quickly through the times tables so please support your child throughout the year to learn, memorise the 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 8s, 10s times tables.
  • Please ensure your child brings in their homework and reading record weekly.

Reminders

Homework will be given out on Friday and will be expected in on Tuesday. Your child may receive:

  • Spellings
  • Mental Math’s/timetables
  • English
  • Maths
  • Handwriting

Homework will consolidate work taught in class over the week. Can you please make sure that you are signing the reading diaries. Library visit and changing books will be on a Wednesday.

This half term we will be visiting the British Museum as part of our History topic on Ancient Egypt. We will be taking part in an interactive workshop on mummies.
