Assalamu’Alaikum Year 3
Welcome to Autumn 2!
I hope you have enjoyed being back at school and proud of yourselves for doing some amazing learning. I hope being back in school has been as enjoyable for you as it has been for me and InSha’Allah we are ready to carry on being fantastic hard workers.
What we are learning this Year/Term
In English we will be reading ‘The pebble in my pocket’ by Meredith Cooper. During our lessons this term we are using a range of writing methods to develop and extend our understanding of the story. We will be writing poems, planning and writing our own version of the story and many other exciting lessons.
In Year 3 we will be reading ‘The miraculous journey of Edward Tulane’ by Kate Dicamilla. Through learning new vocabulary, making predictions about the story, retrieving information and summarising what they have read, we will be developing their understanding of the text being read.
It is important that your child also reads at home every day. Please ensure your child reads at least 15 minutes every day and listen to them read. We encourage children to read a wide range of books. Please let me know if your child does not have access to suitable reading material. Children are also able to join local libraries which are free.
We will be looking at and developing children’s understanding of multiplication and division. We will be using a variety of methods to help consolidate children’s learning and also using concrete materials to help with visualising the methods. Please ensure children are practising their times tables at home.
In computing children will be looking at coding with 2Code to create games and develop their skills through exploring the different features of coding.
In Science, Year 3 will be looking at rocks and soils. We will be exploring the different types of rocks and soils and where and how rocks are made. Children will be making observations and comparing the different rocks and soils to make conclusions.
Year 3 will be studying Geography this term. We will be learning about mountains, volcanoes and earthquakes. We will be looking at the main features of mountains and volcanoes and where and how they are formed. We will also be exploring the causes and consequences of earthquakes.
P.E. will be on Tuesdays. Please ensure that your child has the correct P.E. kit and suitable footwear.
In DT, Year 3 will be making biscuit boxes. We will be exploring different designs and how we can reinforce shell structures. The children will explore the different ways to make the structure more stable. Year 3 will then design, make and decorate our very own biscuit boxes.
If there is something on our class page that you would like to see feel free to let me know.
