Year 1's Autumn Adventures
What an exciting and busy start to the year it’s been! Year 1 have settled in beautifully and have already learned so much this term. Here’s a snapshot of our Autumn 1 adventures:
We kicked off the term with The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson. The children loved joining in with the rhymes, acting out scenes, and inventing their own creatures. They used fantastic adjectives in their writing and showed real storytelling flair!
Our young historians explored how homes have changed over time. We went on a local walk to spot different types of houses and looked at how they compare to homes from long ago. The children shared their learning brilliantly during our class assembly – a big well done to all!
Thank you for all the recycled materials! The children used them to create amazing model houses – from cottages to caravans. They planned, built, and evaluated their work with great enthusiasm and teamwork.
We’ve been learning to name parts of the human body and understand their functions. We also explored the differences between animals – what they eat, how they move, and where they live. The children especially loved the interactive games and discussions!
This half term, we also took part in a "Muffin - Don't get Squished! "Road Safety Workshop by Riot Act. The children learned how to stay safe when crossing roads, the importance of being seen, and why we always stop, look and listen. They were fantastic listeners and showed great awareness.
What a wonderful first half term!
