Welcome Back
Assalamu alaykum and welcome back to the new Spring Term. The children have settled in well after the Winter break and there are a number of exciting events that we all have to look forward to.
Everyday of learning is important and making sure children are in school is one of the best things we can do to make sure that children haveĀ a fixed routine which helps them feel safe and secure and helps them progress in their learning.

Hadith of the week
Last term’s topic was our Messenger, and the children learnt about different aspects of the Prophet Muhammad ļ·ŗ as well as the importance of loving and honouring the Prophet.
This term, our topic is on the Companions, more specifically the Four Rightly Guided Caliphs: Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman and Ali.
After the Prophet, our role models are the Companions whom Allah has mentioned in the Quran and whom the Prophet has mentioned as being the best of generations. The children will learn more information about their lives and more about their personalities, may Allah be pleased with them all.

Headteacher's message
Dear Parents and Carers,Ā
Ų§ŁŲ³ŁŲ§Ł Ų¹ŁŁŁŁ Peace be upon you,
I hope you had a restful and safe winter break with your loved ones. Alhumdulilah, the toilet facilities for the Early Years are fully functioning, and as a result, the Reception children are able to come to school on a full time basis.Ā
There are a couple of updates on our new built project. The DfE has informed us that we are likely to enter a formal agreement with them in March, and they aim to begin the works in April, subject to final approvals from the planning team. Great news!Ā
May I request parents to be mindful of where they park their cars forĀ the pick up and drop off times. This is linked to the schoolās Travel plan and the new school rebuild programme. Please do not block the neighboursā driveways or drive into the car park facility adjacent to the school.Ā
A big JazakāAllah khair to the entire Iqra community for your relentless support for the school.

New Canopy
Over the holidays, builders were at work in fitting in a new canopy (see picture above) for our children. This means that Nursery and Reception children are able to use the toilets without gettingĀ wet. It also provides more of a shelter for when children are leaving and entering the building.Ā

school council elections
The School Council is a group of children made up from all Year groups who meet with the Headteacher in order to discuss important issues that affect the school and children in general. This year, we will be electing a new school council. Children have put forward their nominations and the school will have a chance to vote on who they want to represent them. Each of the candidates will have to present a a small statement as to why they would make a good council member. Voting will take place on 3rd February.

Nice to see you
Over the last couple of weeks, Ustadh Kassujja has had the huge job of meeting with all parents online in order to update them on their children’s progress in Islamic Studies and Arabic.
Before the holidays, we also had teachers giving feedback to parents regarding their children’s progress in learning and behaviour.
Pupils are successful when there is consistency between the school and parents. This is why we are always keen to give updates and to ensure that children’s learning continues at home.
Parents are the most important teachers of children and one of the ways they can help their children is ensuring that children are reading everyday, have good conversations with adults everyday, and are up to date with their homework.
If you would like more information on what children are learning then have a look at the class pages on the school website which gives you information about their learning for this term.

Book Fair coming soon
Iqra School will be having its annual book fair between the 6th of February to the 8th of February. Children will have an opportunity to have a lookĀ at the books on offer and purchase books for them to enjoy. Buying books is one of the small ways in which we show children the importance of reading. More information will be sent nearer the time.

Year 3 ASsembly
Year 3 treated us to a fantastic assembly on Thursday, in which the pupils spoke about how to improve our relationship with Allah, through prayer, Quran and following the Sunnah. The children then treated us to a nasheed of ‘Allah made everything.’ They sounded beautiful.Ā Ā

Bronze Badges
Did you know that pupils at Iqra can earn special badges: bronze, silver and gold through earning points everyday? Points can be earned for good behaviour, kindness, respect and staying focused during lessons.Ā
When children earn 75 points they earn a bronze certificate. Parents can then purchase a bronze badge which children can wear at school for £1.

Other News
In other news, last term children went out on various trips which expanded their knowledge of the world. Years 6, 5Ā and 4 visited the Science Museum where they took part in science experiments in WonderLab. Year 3 went to the Natural History Museum as part of Geography and Year 2 and 1 went to Vauxhall City Farm.
Dinner MoneyĀ
If you have not paid your child’s dinner money, please go on to parent pay to pay the amount that is overdue.Ā
Late ChildrenĀ
If your child is late to school, then please bring your child to the school office where they can be registered and taken upstairs safely.Ā
Ā New Nursery Children
This term, new parents have joined us in Nursery, whom we give a warm welcome to.
